Jiuhuashan Geopark is located in Chizhou City in southern Anhui Province, covers an area of 139.7 square kilometers (N30°28′20.91″, E117°48′3.84″), with the highest elevation of 1,344.4 m. Jiuhuashan Geopark was qualified as a national geopark in August, 2009 and was formally listed in the National Geoparks Network in December, 2012. In December, 2016, Jiuhuashan was awarded a title of the science popularization base of land and resources. Jiuhuashan is a national natural and cultural heritage site, a national park of China and one of the four sacred Buddhist mountains in China.

Jiuhuashan Geopark is famous for the clear, magnificent and beautiful granitic complex rock body, large fault-block granitic landform and unique fluid-rich granite crystal structure which is an outstanding geosite and model site displaying magmatic activities from sima melting to sial melting in deep crust and subsequent tectonic activities, together with the north subtropical vegetation landscape and Buddhist culture.

There is a complete mountain-hill-basin geomorphic structure in Jiuhuashan Geopark. Five types of granite are the products of crustal magmatic activities caused by continental collision of East Asian plate, is the best window of studying magma mixing and is also the model site of researching fluid-rich acidic magmatic crystallization (miarolitic granite). Spectacular large-scale fault-block granitic landform is an outstanding example of regional geographic unit. The geomorphic structure, composed of towering granite mountains, hills and basins, has created various granite peaks, abundant biodiversity and water resources, making the Jiuhuashan a birth place and carrier of Jiuhuashan culture.

Jiuhuashan is a united life community of mountain, water, field, forest and Buddha. Jiuhuashan is famous for Buddhism, and thanks to mountain shape, Buddhism stands for a long time. Therefore, the important contents of "protect Jiuhuashan, understand Jiuhuashan and develop Jiuhuashan" include the following aspects, namely, protecting rare geo-heritages and good ecological environment, popularizing earth science knowledge about Jiuhuashan, conducting the tourism mode of community participation and promoting local economic development. They are also the important purposes of creating global geopark.
